The ‘net is abuzz with stories about Denny’s new Fried Cheese Melt sandwich. I Couls have sourced this story from any one of over a dozen write-ups, include one from the Riverfront Times with the awsome headline: “Denny’s to World: We Will Kill You With Cheese — Cheaply”
I’ve chosen to link out to The Consumerist since they’ve been a feed in my RSS Reader for a long time:
The restaurant chain recently announced a bunch of new items to its value menu. And while most of them are nothing new — quesadilla, fried shrimp — the “fried cheese melt” caught our eyes and stopped our hearts.
The sandwich, which should sell for $4, is “made with four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese grilled between two slices of sourdough bread. It is served with French fries and a side of marinara sauce.” It and the other new items should be available starting Aug. 24.
What can I say, I think I’d like to try it once despite the fact that Riverfront Times in now reporting:
Update: (Thursday, 8.12, 2:15 p.m.) Because I know you wanted to know: The Early Show on CBS reports, via Eater, that the Fried Cheese Melt scores 895 calories and 34 grams of fat.
Update: (Thursday 8.26, 6:14 p.m.) Slashfood has a taste test report with a video.
